PPO REACHES ITS FINAL METAMORPHOSIS
Maestro Herminigildo Ranera takes the dais and performs with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra for the finale live performance of its thirty eighth live performance season on April 28, 2023, 8pm, on the CCP Dwell on the Metropolitan Theater.
The PPO resident and affiliate conductor is a multi-awarded musician who received prime prizes on the Nationwide Music Competitions for Younger Artists (NAMCYA) in 1982 and 1983 for his performances within the Trombone, Baritone, and Tuba (Chamber Music) classes. He received second place on the 1983 League of Filipino Composers Competitors for Younger Composers. He has carried out with varied orchestras right here and overseas, together with the UST Symphony Orchestra, the Manila Philharmonic, the Philippine Pops Orchestra, the CSULB Symphony Orchestra, the Chia Yi Wind Orchestra, San Miguel Philharmonic, Transylvania Philharmonic Orchestra in Membership, Romania, and the Philippine Pop Orchestra, amongst others. He has collaborated together with his mentor, Fr. Manuel P. Maramba, O.S.B. in varied CCP productions. He was the musical director and conductor of the Philippine Opera Firms’ OPERA NOW in 2005, the conductor of the world premiere of three Filipino Operas and Zarzuela. Founding father of the Philippine Band Affiliation (PHILBANDA), Dr. Ranera is at present the board member of the Asia-Pacific Band Administrators Affiliation and the adviser of Band Conductors League of the Philippines.
The PPO, beneath his baton, will premiere his very personal music “Lola Basyang Miniature Suite,” alongside with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Christoph Willibald Gluck’s L’espoir renait dans mon ame from Orphee et Eurydice, and Gaetano Donizetti’s Prendi, per me sei libero from L’elisir d’amore.
The CCP resident orchestra continues its repertoire for its Live performance VIII with Gioacchino Rossini’s Si, ritrovarla io giuro from La Cenerentola, Georges Bizet’s Je dis que rien ne m’epouvante from Carmen, and Gaetano Donizetti’s Quio! Vous m’aimez? from La fille du regiment, and Antonin Dvorak Symphony no. 9, op.95, E minor (“from the New World”).
The PPO shares the stage with younger gifted singers, soprano Mheco Pleasure Manlangit and tenor Radnel Del Rio Ofalsa.
A winner of a number of vocal competitions domestically and internationally, Manlangit received first prize and the Viewers Selection on the 2018 Jovita Fuentes Vocal Competitors, and second Prize on the 2017 Singapore Worldwide Competition of Music Competitors. She has performed varied notable roles equivalent to Maria Clara in CCP’s Noli Me Tangere the Opera, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, and Woman Billows in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring. She is the present choir director of the Hudson Montessori Faculty, and an energetic performing artist in New York and Manila.
Ofalsa bagged the primary prize in two Nationwide Vocal Competitions, the 2018 Jovita Fuentes Vocal Competitors, and the Finest Interpretation of the Competitors Piece on the 2017 NAMCYA Senior Voice Class. He was an Encouragement Award winner on the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competitors in San Francisco District. He has carried out on the CCP’s fiftieth Gala Live performance, NAMCYA’s forty fifth Anniversary Live performance, Paco Park Presents, UST Christmas Gala Concert events, NCCA’s Musikapuluan, the Pals of the Philippines Society USA Inc.’s Fashionable Day Filipino Heroes Live performance, and the Mannes Sounds Competition.
Dubbed Metamorphosis, the thirty eighth live performance collection serves because the battleground for the 5 shortlisted conductors vying for the musical director place. Be careful who can be named the PPO musical director.
